BDS AT FRANKFURT

At the book industry’s biggest and busiest event, BDS will once again be meeting, talking and informing anyone interested in discovering BDS bibliographic metadata and the company’s related services.
BDS will be represented by Lesley Whyte, Managing Director and Eric Green, Managing Director, Digital.
Metadata and the Book Trade
BDS is the metadata supplier of choice to the British Library, UK and Irish public libraries and academic libraries throughout the UK. Its range of services, including its unique UniCat service to universities, has transformed the way metadata works within the book supply chain.
“This is our company’s thirtieth year and it is telling that it was thirty year’s ago that BDS attended its first ever book fair at Frankfurt,” says Lesley Whyte. “The Frankfurt Book Fair remains the world hub of the book trade. It is an exciting place to be and a great place to do business.”
Last year’s book fair saw 230,000 visitors. With 4,300 exhibiting companies from 92 countries and 3,300 events, it was one of the busiest years ever.
Guest of Honour
This year’s guest of honour is The Philippines, a land of 7,641 islands, 135 languages and 109 million inhabitants. A programme of events reflects the nation’s rich cultural heritage. It will feature 100 authors and creative artists at 77 literary events. In many ways, this represents a microcosm of the Book Fair itself. A place where cultures, languages and lands meet.
Alongside this cultural extravaganza, the Fair’s core function is doing business. In today’s increasingly digitised environments, metadata is the key component to ensure books are discovered by buyers.
Talk to BDS
“Over the past thirty years, we at BDS have seen metadata take centre stage, not only in the commerce of the book trade but also in its cultural relevance,” says Eric Green. “We are at Frankfurt to talk with people and welcome enquiries and opportunities to meet people who will profit from what BDS has to offer.”
