BDS SUPPORTS CONCERTS BY CANDLELIGHT

“A journey by candlelight that explores new musical paths and connections” is coming to Dumfries thanks to sponsorship from BDS.

The Scottish Ensemble will be performing “Concerts by Candlelight” at the Crichton Memorial Church on the 6th of December. The evening will include music by music by J.S. Bach and Philip Glass, and the performance of a brand new work by Valentin Silvestrov, a Ukrainian composer currently living in exile in Germany.

The Scottish Ensemble’s pre-Christmas tour of Scotland has become a favourite with concert-goers. Described as, “music that creates a warm glow during the winter chill,” it’s magical atmosphere and seasonal programmes in awe-inspiring settings offer the perfect overture to Christmas celebrations.

UK-Premiere

The inclusion of the UK premiere of “Moments of Memory VI” by Valentin Silvestrov, a co-commission with the Scottish Ensemble and orchestras worldwide, “will perfectly complement this atmospheric and enchanting programme.” The piece marks the third composition supported by the Calder Commissioning Fund, created in memory of Scottish Ensemble’s late founder John Calder.

“BDS is delighted to sponsor the Dumfries performance of Concerts by Candlelight to be given by the Scottish Ensemble,” says Lesley Whyte, Managing Director, BDS. “Over its thirty years operating from Dumfries, BDS has regularly supported local cultural and sporting events, from Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre visits to the Queen of the South football team, from Cash for Kids to Absolute Classics. I am sure Concerts by Candlelight in the magical setting of the Crichton Memorial Church will bring pleasure to all those that attend.”
